When I was in high school, I ran track. My coach put me in the 400. He didn’t give much instruction the first time—and I learned the hard way.
A quarter‑mile can’t be sprinted from start to finish. It isn’t a dash, but it isn’t truly middle‑distance either. Running it well requires strategy—something I only understood after failing.
Run hard, but don’t explode out of the gate.
Stride the back stretch.
Press in the curve.
Empty the tank over the final 100.
The 400 demands patience—deliberate, calculated, disciplined patience.
And so does life.
Living well, living faithfully, requires the same posture:
Run hard… but don’t rush.
“…and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.”
